Class Projects: reshaping the human body
Apr. 8th, 2008 12:27 pmIn the course i teach this semester (Decorative Arts for costume production graduate students), my students are about to finish their parasol projects [1], so i've been preparing for the final unit, called "Reshaping the Actor," in which we discuss body padding and other rigs for actor metamorphosis.
I pulled up several examples from our stock and put them onto forms to show the students, so i thought i'd share them here as well. All of these predate my tenure here, so i can't shed any light on what their original usage was.

a 34 male form becomes a plus-size female body

base form is 35/26/36

nice "back fat" rendering on this set of padding

tumorous hunchback padding--yuck!
I'm interested to find out what my students choose for projects on this one. I know we're going to have at least one male-to-female and one "large buttocks" pad, possibly a pregnancy and possibly a fantastical alien body...
