My millinery students presented blocked hats this morning, and wow! They did some great work!

Beautiful work.

On the hand-draped hats, is it a case of blocking the basic cloche shape and draping the rest?

Milliner Jasmine Zorlu explains the process a bit in this video:

You block the round crown, then free-form the rest of it while still on the block employing steam and pins, then do a combination of sizing and stitching to reinforce your sculptural elements.

Lovely! What types of felts did they use?

The first was a wool felt capeline, the spider was a printed wool felt hood, the next two were plain wool felt hoods, the navy riding hat was a velour felt hatbody, and the last one was another plain wool felt hood.

Thank you. I'm thinking it's time I tried my hand at blocking and draping felt again. It has been over 5 years I think!
