My millinery students presented blocked hats this morning, and wow! They did some great work!

Second-year graduate Kelly Renko made this bowler-inspired hat
with a coq feather spray. The brim is bound in velvet ribbon.

First-year Denise Dietrich used the same block combination to create this navy felt riding hat, bound in navy grosgrain.

First-year Colleen Dobson used an antique puzzle block to create this cute purple felt perch hat.

You block the round crown, then free-form the rest of it while still on the block employing steam and pins, then do a combination of sizing and stitching to reinforce your sculptural elements.
