Behind-the-Scenes: More Pride and Prejudice hats and parasols!

We're starting our second round of fittings on Pride and Prejudice today, which means the designer's seen some more of the hats, which means i can share a few more photos here!

Behind the cut are some images of new mockups, the finished striped silk parasol (shown in mockup in the previous P&P post), a blocked hat (which, the block's pretty much the stand-in for a mockup on those), and a spiral straw.

Aww, cute. Wait til it gets ribbons! Spiraled from scratch.

Photobucket
This is not as claustrophobic to wear as it appears it would be.
(Also, this is just a mockup. The real one is going to be red/gold crossweave silk.)

Photobucket
The silk striped parasol, complete!

Photobucket
What i've been calling "The Trucker Bonnet." (Most hats i make get nicknames like this.)
Except now with the pleated sideband it's not nearly as truckery.

Photobucket
Grey straw miniature topper with silver silk taffeta band/binding.
This will get a large spray of dyed red pheasant feathers.

Photobucket
Ruched underbrim of the mini-top.

I suppose i could make a good sideline out of selling miniature toppers like this on Etsy or something. Scaled-down versions of traditional shapes (mini-toppers, mini-fedoras, mini-pillboxes, etc) seem to be fairly popular for evening streetwear/nightclubbing and performers like burlesque artists and bellydancers.

Awww man!! That stuff is awesome! I love the first straw bonnet. From scratch. That's on my list of things to do "someday". Really, I want to come play with you. I'm so jealous and missing crafts right now. I was at Alabama Shakes for a bit, but not long enough.

lovely! i especially like that gray mini topper. it has a nice shape and detail and it's a good size. not tiny or huge. I look forward to seeing it with feathers.

speaking as someone who is part of the burlesque and performance community, small hats ARE all the rage, and I for one most certainly appreciate less standard shapes -- the tilt on your topper and the ruched fabric underneath definitely set it apart from the stuff that's out there now.

If you go that way, please post a note directing us to wherever you sell them!
