There are two millinery competitions fast approaching which are incredible opportunities for both established and aspiring hatmakers!

The first is Stephen Jones' millinery competition, sponsored by Vogue UK and in conjunction with Jones' forthcoming gallery exhibition at the Bard Graduate Center in NY. The winning hat will become a part of the exhibit (Hats: An Anthology), curated by Jones and already having been displayed at galleries in both London and Melbourne. The winner will also receive a two-week internship with Stephen Jones, two tickets to the gallery opening in NYC, and a one-year membership to the V&A! Details for entry are at the above link, but the most pertinent info is this: you must submit an image of either an existing hat or a design for a hat you can make in a week, and the entry must not be a fascinator. The deadline is fast approaching--August 11--so get your entries in! And, look for a follow-up post some time during the voting week (August 12-18) about my own entry and the two "runner-up" hats I made for the contest but ultimately didn't make my own cut. (You can enter only ONE hat.)

The second is sponsored by the Bridport Hat Festival, and is strictly for amateur milliners! As with the first, you may enter only ONE hat, and the deadline is August 20th. First prize is £500!
