dye class: shibori yardage
My dye class has just presented their shibori projects, in which they choose a technique and a type of fabric, then must execute the technique on yardage with the proper type of dye for their fabric. The results have been just fantastic!

Top: Second year grad Kelly Renko did a two-process pole-wrapped technique
to create this crosshatched pattern on silk habutai.
Bottom: Second year grad Leah Pelz did a two-processtechnique to create this silk habutai yardage,
first running it through a smocking machine for the horizontal stripes,
then twisting the yardage onto a pole for the "flames."

First year grad Corinne Hodges did these stitched spirals on silk.
The patterns at right are engineered to fit into the pattern pieces of a peplum jacket lining.

Third year grad Candy McClernan created this diamond pattern on silk using a combination of stitching/gathering and clamping. The dye was applied at the top with a baster and at the bottom with a brush, for the different saturations.

Candy's fabric coming out of its dowel clamps.

First year grad Colleen Dobson created this folded and clamped pattern on cotton yardage.

One of Colleen's "reject" samples, which actually turned out pretty cool,
but wasn't the starburst pattern she was trying to achieve.

First year graduate Denise Dietrich created this floral pattern on cotton yardage.
She plans to make a kimono from it!
