Class: wig/hat hybrids

labricoleuseMy millinery class presented their third round of projects today, of which i have three images to share: a Muppet wig, a steampunk-dreadlock creation, and a commodore dog hat. The premise of the project is to address a costume element which relates to hair, but which in theatre would not be solved by traditional wigmaking. Students use millinery principles and craftwork techniques to create a wearable object.
First-year grad Denise Dietrich made this steampunk-inspired dreadlock wig.
The piece incorporates synthetic dreadlocks, tubular horsehair,
microcell foam, plastic conduit, and copper wire.
Undergraduate Megan Rutherford made this wig/hat/mask hybrid of a commodore dog.
She used fleece and wool roving on a buckram foundation.
(The black lines on the form under the dog muzzle are marks from a headwrap, and are not part of the dog hat.)
First-year grad Colleen Dobson created this human-sized Muppet hair wig.
Colleen made a base cap of faux fur and ventilated it with ostrich flues using a small latch hook.
